Birmingham Birmingham airport to Hampstead ( North of London)
Posted: Wed July 25, 2007 04:25 PM UTC
Hi all ,
I will be arriving into birmingham in the next few days and have to goto Hampstead - North London. I checked online car rentals and auto transmission cars even for a 2 day rental are costing about 150 pounds which is quite a lot ( canadian licence holders cant drive manual transmission). I have two 30kg bags and a big handbag so lugging them off to a train station would be difficult.

Are there any point to point vans which run from the birmingham airport to hampstead. Something like the blue vans in toronto and most US big cities. Any suggestions on how to get to north of london would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately you have two choices -

1. Train - and the plus is the Train Station is near to the Airport within walking distance and I am sure you can use the Airport trolley to carry your luggage.

2. Coach - again the service runs from the airport within walking distance.

The coach fare will set u back £21 return open and it will drop you off in central London from there I would suggest a taxi due to the heavy lugguage or get someone to meet you at the coach station.

The train can be more expensive and may set you back a bit more but it all depends on the day and how busy the service is.

If you go onto Google.co.uk serach engine and type in National coach it will take you to there site and you can check times and dates and how much the fare is.

My advice go by coach its cheaper and the amount of lugguage u have it will be easier....

car hire is another option but it is an expensive game

hope this helps you ......

Be also prepared to pay extra taxi fare for your luggage. Not sure how much it costs these days, but I had to pay an extra £5 a few years ago.
£150 seems a lot for a one way, 2 day hire. Try something like Enterprise, Thrifty or Budget car hire companies. These 3 are usually reasonable.

If this is your first time in England - do not drive! I agree with the post above - get a trolley and wheel your luggage to the coach and the driver will put it in the storage area. The coach goes every 30 minutes and takes 2 hours and 50 minutes and goes to the large Victoria coach station in Victoria. The tube to Hampstead would involve a change so again a taxi is the best option.

Thank you for your help . I am leaning towards the coach. Might be easier with my bags. Thank you for your inputs.
