I hope the things go smoothly for you and Jane with it. Once she gets her "permanent" green card, things would be much easier and less worries for you two.
I finally turned in my application for the citizenship after 21 years with a green card. I'm kind of holding my breath these days, too. :)

yes amos,
it's a process, that keeps you in limbo. We let our breath out a little bit when we did get delivery confirmation that at least they did receive our application.
But now, we are waiting for the NOA (Notice of Action), which tells us that they officially have received our application and are starting to work on it.
Then the real deep breath begins, once they are working on it, it could take quite some time.

I'm from Japan. All these years, I never plan to get the citizenship, but last year I lost my green card, and went through hell... It really changed my mind.

I know what waiting and paperwork means, but in the end all goes well. Enjoy the time together while you wait and try not to think to much of it.

Re: holding our breath Posted: Thu July 26, 2007 02:10 AM UTC
thanks everyone,
as always I appreciate the support Jane and I have received on VT, some of you know our story going way back.
everyone goes down the immigration road on their own path, it is complicated, but some people have had a lot more than we have had to deal with, we have been successful but there is one last thing we have to do, to satisfy US government requirements.
Basically what is happening right now, is Jane has a "conditional" Permanent Resident status (green card) which expires on the two year anniversary of her immigration. The reason it is conditional, is because we had not been married for at least two years before she immigrated.
So, we had to apply to the US government, with evidence of a legitimate marriage, and money of course. If approved, Jane will get a 10 year Permanent Resident card, and can remain at that status for the rest of her life in the US.
some people send in all kinds of stuff as evidence, Jane and I decided to just send in the basic, important stuff, I hope we are approved. The worst that could happen is, they will request more evidence, and then a personal interview.
anyway, that's what we are holding our breath about.
now, after this is all over, if we are approved, there is one other thing we could do, and it's optional, and that is apply for Naturalization (US Citizenship) for Jane.
I haven't looked into it too much, I know there is a test involved, and a swearing in ceremony. I'll have to research it, but one step at a time.
It's so stressful just researching what you have to do right now in the immigration process, once you have achieved that step, you tend to want to take a break, and enjoy what you have accomplished.

Re: holding our breath Posted: Thu July 26, 2007 08:13 PM UTC
again, I appreciate all the support from VT, it has been my main source of encouragement, especially early on in the process, when Jane was visiting me on a Tourist Visa.
I remember having cold feet to take my first international flight to see Jane in Taiwan, and meet her parents, and many people on VT, especially littlesam1 gave me the encouragement I needed to make that trip.
subsequently, after Jane and I decided to get married, I had to do some power research, with not too much time, and I started on About.com, and was lucky to be referred to visajourney.com, which is a website where people talk about their experiences in all phases of immigration issues.
It was a lifesaver for us, we found out though visajourney.com, that Jane and I had the lucky option to file her immigration papers in Taiwan, doing what's called DCF (Direct Consular Filing), which saved us a lot of time and money, as opposed to going the K1 (Fiancee Visa), or K3 (Spousal Visa) route, which can take over a year.
I flew over to Taiwan, and married Jane in the Taipei District Court, and we applied for her immigrant visa over there at the US consulate. It was approved in three weeks, and she was good to go to the US.
Sorry for the details, just wanted to let you know what's been going on. As there are people on here that have been following this story for awhile.
Ok, well Bilimari, I don't know where you are at in your application for Citizenship, but again, I really want to talk to you and share some knowledge and experiences. You are ahead of us, or on the next step so to speak.
If you are having any kind of trouble or questions, I would also suggest checking out visajourney.com, it has been my main source of technical support.
I don't want to bore anyone with all these details, so please anyone let me know and I'll just start a new thread with updates on our situation, it will take a while anyway.
And Bilimari, we can always discuss things by e-mail.
thanks again people, you have been great!

just an update.
Jane and I got two mailings today from the US government. One was the NOA (Notice of Action), and the other was her biometrics appointment.
so far we didn't get an RFE (Request for Further Evidence), so I think we are doing good!
