Yellowstone National Park Visiting Yellowstone and Grand Tetons on low budget
Posted: Tue July 24, 2007 04:04 PM UTC
2 of my firends and I are vising the park the last week of August for 4-5 days. We are on a low budget.

What camp sites in the park do you suggest? Any amazing day hikes that we should not miss?

Any hostels near the Grand Tetons or Jackson Hole? The only one I can find is Hostel X. Is it better just reserve a camp site?

What do you think I must see when there.

I know this post is broad, but I am trying to get as much info as possible without relying on just the park sites. Thanks for all your help.

Last week of August is absolutely my favorite time of the year to visit!
As to campgrounds, you might want to try Atherton Creek campgroung (that's in the Slide Lake region and one of my personal favorites), a bit further East, Red Hills - asolutely less traveled by tourists (in fact, many do not make it here at all)!, finally, for something closer to the actual range:any of the Hoback Junction stations or, up around Kelly.
I've seen people camping off road next to the Kelly hot springs but, beware as this is buffalo area.

FOr must do's: DO NOT miss Hidden Falls hike. Go first boat out across the lake and hike up as far as you can into the mountain. Try being on the way back down by 4:00pm however as it will take a few hours for the return.
Also, Jackson Lake Lodge for all you can eat buffet breakfast if you are there on a Sunday.
Get up early and head for Oxbow bend, best place to watch early morning feeding moose.
All of Jackson/Jackson Hole is beautiful, you won't lack for a WOW factor!
Enjoy your trip

Now Hostel X I can tell you about as I have stayed there 3 times.
It's certainly not glamorous, but the rooms have 4 beds for one price-I think they raised the price to $60 +/- this year, but that's cheap to me considering your surroundings and you don't have to lug camping equipment around.
I think my boss stayed in the Bunkhouse in his younger day. I am reading in the 5th edition Moon Handbook Wyoming that it's located in the Anvil Motel basement www.anvilmotel.com perhaps you can check that out.
I think I breakfasted @ the Village Cafe on espresso and huge breakfast wraps or homemade granola, but I was never quite sure of their schedule. LOL
The Grand Tetons take my breath away. Any more questions feel free to e-mail me or Homer above as it's our favorite subject. I must find my WY travel diary...hmmm.
Have a blast!
