| San Antonio | Driving from Houston to San Antonio Posted: Sun July 22, 2007 11:08 PM UTC
My wife and I plan to visit San Antonio in late October. We will be flying into Houston and thinking about renting a car to drive to San Antonio. I expect it will take 3-4 hours. Alternatively, we could fly of course. Recommendations either way would be appreciated. Thanks.

There is not too much to see for the drive, but it might be cheaper to rent a car rather than fly and pay for parking at the airport. Plus you would want a car to get around San Antonio. San Antonio is a lovely city, I hope you have a nice visit!

The 3 hour drive is fairly uneventful, a few ranches and loads of farmland. If you are tight on time, my pick would be a 45 minute flight (you can go from Hobby Airport via Southwest Airlines). From San Antonio International, you can catch an $18.00 cab downtown to the Riverwalk area. The downtown is very pedestrian friendly, with a trolley system to reach the Market Square shopping area and King William historic district.
Cheers!

It depends on if you want a car in San Antonio, with airport check in and claiming luggage it takes about the same time to drive. If you drive it is only 3 hours and straight out I-10 going West, it's an easy drive once you get out of Houston and past all the construction on I-10 :-) You really don't need a car in San Antonio unless you are going to Sea World or want to visit some places outside the city. The Riverwalk is where it's all at.
