| Santo Domingo | Language School: Where to study-Zona Universitaria or Zona Colonia? Posted: Sun July 22, 2007 06:28 PM UTC
Hi All!
I am going to be studying Spanish during the fall semester in Santo Domingo. I need to choose between two different language schools which are located in different parts of the city. The first is located in the Zona Universitaria (Instituto Intercultural del Caribe) and the other is located in the Zona Colonial (Hispaniola Language School). Can anyone provide a little information about these two different parts of the city? It would be helpful in my decision-making process. I am a female, have never traveled to the DR before, and consider safety to be very a important concern for me. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thx! Vaij |

Hello There!!!
I've been to Santo Domingo, but didn't attend school there, however, the two zones are actually in the same area, maybe 10/15 minutes driving. The Zona colonial tends to be on the expensive side because its a more touristic area, but not much of a difference. If you would like the true foreign ambiance you will get that in the Zona universitaria. There maybe a difference as far as tuition & so forth. here's a map that will give you a better idea of the zones. http://www.bocachicabeach.net/images/maps/map_sant you may need to wait until the expand for regular size option appears on your screen will be on your right lower side. If you notice the Ciudad Universitaria its right on top of where the N for north simbol is & the Zona colonial its towards the right on the same bottom portion of the map just follow the Av George Washington (east). Hope this helps.
