| North Carolina | Best Campsite in the Smokies or general mountain area there Posted: Thu July 19, 2007 03:21 PM UTC
Hello to all,
I am camping without electricity for the first time simply because I know I can camp in a more isolated location that way. I'm camping with my husband and 18 year old son. Our top priority has always been privacy at the campsite. We camp to get close to nature and enjoy the peace and quiet. But I must have HOT SHOWERS and must camp at the site vs. walk in site. We will be going in august and during the week Monday-Friday to avoid crowds. We want to drive into the mountains from Orlando and camp somewhere where it actually gets cool! We love to hike, canoe, cayak, and bike, and sit at the campsite reading and doing NOTHING. I'd rather not drive much more than 10 hours if at all possible. Can you recommend something? I want our first time without water or electric to be a success. The only thing I'm a bit scared about are bears. We have never encountered one. We always keep food and coolers locked in the car and so far---so good. Thanks for your advice, Patty in orlando |
