| Whistler | Other Great Mountains In Canada Posted: Wed July 18, 2007 03:48 AM UTC
This maybe the wrong forum to post this... but what are some other cool mountains in BC? I'm looking to get to Whistler but thought I'd ask if any of you guys would recommend some other great places?
Cheers |

Whistler is by far the largest, with the most nightlife, people, etc. But there are dozens of other choices in BC. A few years ago somebody posted this link, which lists every single ski resort in BC (and Alberta). It's a fantastic overview:

... and the link I just posted lists 7 regions. Click on each number, and you'll see the lists of ski resorts within each region.

yeah Big White is on my list :-), since I need a job I've been contacted alot of places and they all seem to be holding interviews around late October and won't hire before hand (which makes things a little uncertain) so I guess I'm going to have pick a place where they need/use alot of staff and hope for the best.... Thanks for all the info guys.

No problem!
A word about the October hiring schedule - this seems to be quite the norm for most ski resorts. But the resorts generally don't open until November or December (depending on snow levels). So if you do secure a job in October, be prepared to wait around for a month or two until you earn a paycheque. Of course, you could just show up in December, as most people are coming and going. As long as you're not seeking any particular position, you shouldn't have any problem getting a job.

I'd be going for a job as a Lifty, I've done 3 years as an operator at Mt Buller (Australia) so thats probably my best option, not really interested in retail or hospitality, 5 years behind the bar was enough for me :-) I assume lifty positions are nearly alway available, with all the broken knees and wrists... was getting a little worried but sounds like it won't be that much stress.... cheers Carmanah

Just a quick question cause I can't seem to find much info on it, will I need a 'Canadian Social Insurance Number' to work in Canada?

Absolutely. You'll need to apply for a working holiday visa in order to get your Social Insurance Number (SIN). They only issue a limited number of work visas to Australians every year and it's first come first served. Note that if you do end up in Whistler, everyone you will work with will be Australian. ;)

Cool, yeah already onto my visa and as for the Social Insurance Number I'll visit one of the 'Service Canada Centers'... and do it in person.

The same newspaper article mentioned that Vancouver has more females than males, that women have problems finding men, but men have no problems finding women in Vancouver. The opposite may be true in Whistler, apparently. ;)

Haha... yeah. They showed a bunch of plain jane women in their 30's getting Yaletown pedicures talking about how they can't find any men. Then they cut to these two GQ model type guys walking down and yellow out to them, "Do you have problems finding women?!!!" and they looked back at the camera suspiciously, "um... no!" And the camera person said, "Because they have problems finding YOU!"
The one guy turned around and said, "Oh really? Well that is such a SHAME."
