| Gorod Bishkek | Travel via Moscow Posted: Mon July 16, 2007 10:51 PM UTC
I am looking at traveling to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan this October for a short trip. I have received mixed information on flights transiting Moscow SVO airport. If I do not depart terminal is it neccesary to obtain a Russian visa.
I know that I can get my Kyrgyzstan visa once arriving at the Bishkek airport but want to avoid possible problems in Moscow. Any information would be appreciated. |

I believe that you will need a transit visa, but then again, a lot depends on your nationality. Look at this website for help:
http://www.delta.com/planning_reservations/plan_fl The airline will also be able to answer this question. If you do not have the proper documentation, you will not be allowed to board the plane for Moscow.

As said: you don't give much info about yourself.
Check the link that's been given to you (the TIM). For EU citizens: RUSSIAN FEDERATION (RU) Visa not required if continuing within 24 hours and not leaving the airside (international) transit area. Passenger must hold onward ticket and all documents required for next destination. If continuing by a domestic flight (also including Belarus); or if airport of arrival is different from airport of departure within the same Russian city (e.g. arriving at Sheremetyevo-2 and departing from Sheremetyevo-1 airport in Moscow): Transit visa required, as entering territory of Russian Fed.

From my experience, yes you need a transit visa, even when sitting in the airport waiting on your flight to Bishkek. I know this because I contacted the Consulate myself and spoke to him over the phone. I already traveled to Bishkek last year through Moscow, and I even went to Issyk-kul, very beautiful lake! So go ahead and get your transit visa secured right now from the Consulate in Washington, DC. Also, if the policy has changed, the Consulate should be able to answer your questions better than anyone here in this forum.
Best Regards
