| Göteborg | Hotels near or in Göteborg Posted: Sun July 15, 2007 04:08 PM UTC
I'll be arriving by rental car and am looking for either a moderately priced hotel with pleasant surroundings outside the city or a moderately priced hotel within walking distance to the major sights in the inner city. My thanks in advance.

Have a look at www.needahotel.com or www.1800hotels.ie . Both are excellent.

Moderately priced right in the city centre are hotel Opera or hotel Robinson. Both in the Central station area so not the easiest to drive to but definately near all sights. I should have a link on my Göteborg page.

Charlotta, thanks for suggesting the two hotels (Opera and Robinson) I assume that there is safe parking nearby. We'll be coming from Stockholm via Jonköpping---another overnight stay - any suggestion for this city or its wider surroundings? - Must I make advance reservations; (we like to travel without commitment). We will contnue to Malmö (rental car drop-off) and then to Trelleborg where we have reservations as we will leave via ferry for Rostock.
Any suggestions as to sights (nature, history, culture)? Again thanks in advance. Henry

I don't know if you've already set off (I'm just back from holiday myself) but outside Jönköping, the wooden town of Gränna is very pretty and has great lakeside views. Not all hotels are open out of season there - I cannot remember when you would travel - but there are some all year round ones.
Göteborg city centre has expensive parking and I don't know which parking lots are safe or not as I don't drive so you'd better ask the hotels. There is a giant shopping mall near the hotels which has parking but I doubt I'd want to put my car in their parking space 24 hours a day. The big hotel Europa in the shopping mall might have its own parking...
