Timisoara URGENT question about railways in romania (for Timisoara-Suceava-Moscow) !
Posted: Sat July 14, 2007 01:56 PM UTC
Hi !

We want to make a trip Timisoara-Suceava-Moscow, taking the train N1839 from Timisoara to Suceava, and then in Suceava catching the train to Moscow (N382), going from Bucharest. Seems that neither travel agencies nor internet have informations that we urgently !!! need :

- how much days in advance tickets must be booked ?
- how much days in advance cushetes must be booked ?

- what is the exact price for the train Timisoara-Suceava (sitting places) ?
- what is the price for 2nd class (reservation with bed) for the train Suceava-Moscow ?

- whether it exists discounts for young people for these both trains ?

- when is the working time of tickets offices at railway stations in Timisoara and Suceava ?

Please, help with any exact informations...

Thanks !

For the Timisoara - Suceava part you don't need to book tickets in advance; you can simply buy them at the station before the train leaves. A 2nd class ticket would cost 65 lei (that's about 21 euros).
For the international train I think (but frankly I'm not very sure) that tickets should be booked at least one day in advance.

Also, I think it would be cheaper and faster to not take the train to Moscow straight from Suceava, instead you could catch a bus across the border to Chernovcy in Ukraine and then find a train to Moscow.

Unfortunately, the only train runing from Chernovcy to Moscow (or Kiev) is the same train from the line Bucharest-Suceava-Moscow.
Why you think that the difference in the price would be so significant ?
I called several stations in Romania, among who the Suceava station and no one speaks english (or french) and no one could give me any informations about the price. They was just telling "pret internacional ne konne".

Do you maybe know or could you eventually get that information, about the price ?
Is there any difference in price if the ticket is bought in the CFR agency or in the railway station and can the young people have some discounts ?

Thank you for answering !

Apart from the Sofia-Bucharest-Kiev-Moscow express, there is another train going from Chernovcy to Moscow, but it goes via Lviv.

It is certainly cheaper (although I'm not sure by how much) to take the bus instead of the train from Suceava to Chernovcy, but most importantly it's much faster because the train has to stop at the border (for about 2 hours) and have its bogies changed for the wider Ukrainian railway tracks.

Returning to the price question, I guess a a 2nd class ticket from Suceava to Moscow would cost between 50 - 70 euros plus the sleeper supplements (which depend on how many beds there are in the compartment).

There isn't any difference in price if you buy the ticket at the station or in a CFR booking agency.

Also, did you call the CFR's agency in Suceava (not the station)? Its number is (230) 214 335 (add the appropriate calling codes, depending where you're calling from).

What is the working time of the CFR agencies ?
For the sleepers, the place must be booked one day in advance, right ?
Can a place for a train from Suceava be booked in Timisoara the previous day ?

1) The travel agency in Suceava is open Monday to Friday between 7 AM and 8 PM. I guess the one in Timisoara has much the same schedule, but may also be open on Saturdays.

2) and 3) Like I said, I'm really not sure about pre-booking, it might be required to book the places with much more than just a day in advance, so you should try to book as early as you can.

4)Unless you have one of those international rail passes, I don't think you'll get any discounts.
Other than that, CFR has discounts just for Romanian pupils and students.
