| Skopje | San Diego to Skopje Posted: Thu July 12, 2007 04:39 PM UTC
Hi my husbands best friend is getting married in Skopje Macedonia. We are in San Diego, California United States. Does anyone know how to fly there cheap? I found tickets for over $2000 just for one person! I know a round the world trip ticket costs less then that. Or if you can help with ideas for that as well. We want to travel and make a film for kids telling them how Good God is. A lot of kids these days are growing up in broken homes, drugs, etc. We want to show them that someone out there does love them and this is a beautiful world. Please help us anyway possible. Prayers, etc. Any ideas? Thank you and May God Bless you according to his glories riches. you can e-mail us at ericthekuno@yahoo.com Thanks in advance.

Alternative option:
Try to fly to Vienna or Bratislava(Slovakia) from the States, then skyeurope.com will fly u cheap to Thessaloniki, Greece(if u book on time); a great place for people of the Book as ap. Paul has left some of his traces there. There are 2 trains a day to Skopje, just 25 US and 5 hours one way... Good luck anyway!

I went to Skopje from Toronto and found that going through Greece is probably the easiest and fastest way. You can likely get cheaper roundtrip tickets to Athens International from San Diego or (definitely) from LA. From Athens its a 5 hour train ride to Thessaloniki and a four hour ride from Thessaloniki to Skopje (but you save an hour because of the time-zone change). In all it shouldn't cost more that 60 euro to get from Athens to Skopje by train on the fastest Intercity services. Coming from Serbia is problematic because of the poor state of Serbian railways and roads. The trip from Skopje to Nis should be 4 hours but it took me 6 because the train broke down several times en route.

The trains from Belgrade southwards are a bit slow and not very modern but they are safe and I have liked them. Buses are faster and the road is a modern motorway to Nis, then worse for a couple of hours til the border, so motorway again in Slavomacedonia.
Good luck!

Fly from Dulles Washington DC or La Guardia NYC to London with AA for 249 GBP ( special offers on www.BA.com) to London Gatwick and from London Heatrow to Skopje via Prague with the Czesh National airlines CSA for 197 GBP return ofcourse.
The flights from UK leave from Manchester 7.00 am or LHR at 10.30 am save wenesday. That is the cheapest I coul find. Sort of direct. Monarch hollidays have late nite charter flights to Saloniki, arriving at 3.40 am local time departing gatwick at 11.30 pm. but thne you have to get taxi to the Saloniki railway station wich is about 25km away in the center of town, wich will cost you €18 nite tarife and wait till 6.00 for the train to Skopje. this way you will arrive at skopje Airport at 3.30 pm local time. Took the same route so many times and in my experiance is the cheapest and the fastest. Hope this helps. welcome to Macedonia, Land of Nature, Cradlle of Culture. Valentina

3 options:
1. (my close friend used this a month ago) Fly from LAX to London (via any major airline company AA,Delta.....) and from London you have a good connection with JAT (Yugoslav Aero Transport) to Skopje (via Belgrade). 2. The option which is quite cheaper: Fly from San Diego to Dusseldorf Germany with charter company LTU (some days it is operated by UA) and from Dusseldorf you have 2 times a week connection to Skopje (MAT ) . It depends when you want to fly. If you like to book 2 months in advance , I am sure that it will not cost that much. I just checked on their site and return ticket in October is 660 EUR + 260 EUR for Dusseldor - Skopje flight , makes it 920 EUR = 1.200,00 $ 3. But if you fly from LAX to Dusseldorf it is much, cheaper. You could buy a return ticket LAX-Dusseldorf for 400,00 EUR. I think that by far this is the cheapest option!
