Uluru National Park (Ayers Rock) Weather in December - - too hot?
Posted: Wed July 11, 2007 11:45 PM UTC
I am planning on stopping in Ayers Rock for 1 night on my way to Cairns... I know it will be very hot but is it impossible to see Ayers Rock or do the Sounds of Silence dinner during this type of weather? Or is it something that is doable if I drink a lot of water? I will NOT be climbing it. Thankfully, I know that it is not humid and it's just dry. If anyone has experience, please help!

Is it worth it for me to go for just 1 night? I'm dying to see it.

thanks!

If you are planning to arrive in Alice Springs, then you really wont have time to get to the rock unless you arrive in Alice extremely early. It is quite a drive to the rock from there, and to get back again.
Can you give us some more info?

Suzy there is an Uluru airport now I believe??? So if he/she lands there, it could be seen in a day I think...

Too hot? Well, I think the highlight of being there is going early-early in the morning to watch the sunrise on the horizon and seeing the colours change on the rock. So, if you follow that plan, early morning it isn't that hot. The flies will be worse than the sun anyway.

Going for one night? Ummmmmmmm...that's a tough one. I wouldn't go there for just one night, as you can't get a feel for a destination in such a short time, and there is some pretty good hiking to be done as well. But if all you want to do is start at a huge rock for 10 minutes like the Grizzwald's did at the Grand Canyon in the movie "Vacation", well, then maybe you'll enjoy it!

Have fun!

I think you are right about the airport, but you have to connect from somewhere, and that sort of info hasnt been conveyed unfortunately. they really need to give us more info. If they are planning on staying the night at the rock, I hope they are prepared for the dollars it will cost

If you stay one night in Ayers Rock you can see both sunrise and sunset. In my opinion this will not be too hot and at least doable.

Be aware accommodation and tours are (rather) expensive !!
