my family and i are not strong swimmers,so could anyone tell me if there are any outdoor/indoor pools in the area that would allow us to swim without going in the sea.thanks

I don't know about pools, but I don't think you need to worry so much about swimming in the Adriatic if you find a nice pebble beach. The sea is clear and shallow, without steep dropoffs. There are no waves or currents.
The website http://www.croatia-beaches.com/family/best_family_beaches.htm lists 2 beaches suitable for children in Trogir.

Hi!!!!! I live in Croatia so I know that there are a lot of swiming pools in our hotels. But I would like to tell you that you can find a nice beach and take some rest there and enjoy in a view and our beautifull Adriatic sea. Enjoy!!!!

sea is not that dangerous if you don't do foolish things and go too deep ;)
beaches here are quite nice. there is one hotel, that i know, that has a swimming pool, and a nice beach in front: http://www.hotel-jadran.com/
