Oxfordshire English course in Oxford
Posted: Tue July 10, 2007 09:00 AM UTC
Hi everybody!
I hope I'm not too late for this & someone will answer. This Saturday (14th July) I'm going to Oxford. I'll stay there for 2 weeks & I'll take an English course at the Aspect college. Has anyone already been there? I'll be staying with a host family that lives in the Rose Hill area. I've read that this area has many social prbs (unemployment, drug abuse, street crime,...) - is all this true? Does anyone know sth more about it?
Thx 4 your answers,
Tina

Hello Tina
Well, what you have read is partly true but these things can be exaggerated in the press. There are law abiding folk everywhere and you will hopefully find your host family to be in that catergory. It is usual for colleges taking overseas students to "vet" (approve) host families.

During any days off and away from your studies at the college you will be able to go in to Oxford and explore some of the ancient colleges.

I very recently discovered, on this VT site, a community right next door to Rose Hill. Although a lot of houses have been built there it still has a rural area, near the river and the Lock. It is a popular place for people to go for walks and relaxation. It is called Iffley and you should be able to find it on VT either by that name or under Oxford. It might be a nice place to go with people you meet on the course.
Very best of luck with your studies.

You have probably already looked at the Oxford travel pages on VT but if not there is an absolute mine of information there. Look at the Tips too - particularly Things to do and Off the beaten Track.
This is the link for the Iffley Tip I mentioned
