I'm traveling to Croatia this September and was wondering which is the best way to get to Plitvicka National Park from Pula or Rijeka. Is there a bus that goes there directly or would it be easier to rent a car?

I don't know about the bus, but driving it is pleasant and relatively easy. I drove in the other direction in last May. You can rent in Pula, not sure about Rijeka. I was due to turn in my National rental in Porec, but learned at the Zagreb pickup that the Porec office had not yet opened, so someone from the Pula office came to Rovinj to pick up the car. If your plans for accommodation in Istria are not firm, I stongly recommend Casa Garzotto in Rovinj. Great place and helpful, friendly proprietor. Rijeka is much closer and there are direct bus tours from Opatija also. You can get there by public bus but you may have to change at Karlovac.
