are there places to rent a car in lofoten besides that major international companies who seem very expensive? |

Hi!
I think it is just the main companies (Avis, Herz, europcar etc.), but you could check with the relevant tourist office. Car hire is expensive in Norway, but not too much. We hired a car from Avis in May and it cost GBP 200 for three days including petrol and one-way charge (we collected in Svolvaer and dropped-off at Leknes airport). It is certainly worth it, as the scenery is so stunning you will constantly want to stop for a better look. Also, if the weather is bad a car gives you more options for getting to places of interest without hanging around in the driving rain waiting for a bus! Also, you might be able to get a discount on the back of a frequent flyer or hotel loyalty card. Regards Andrew
