| Cusco | Living in CUSCO Posted: Sun July 8, 2007 04:22 PM UTC
I am looking into volunteering for United Planets in Cusco and I am curious to hear of others experiences in this area- What is the town like? Would 3-4 months be too long to stay in peru? What are some of the wonderful experiences there? thx

Cusco is one of the cutest towns in the world. I hadn't a clue what to expect from Peru and it ended up being one of my favorite places in my 7 month trip around the world. Lima was surprisingly affluant and pretty cool, only stayed 1 night. Cusco is great, lots of little cafes, the best food in the world in an Irish bar!!!??? who would have thought it (i'm irish...) Still dream about those avacado sandwhiches and bread and butter pudding... You'll have a ball. 3-4 months is pretty long but if you're volunteering then you'll be occupied so it will be brill. I've considered going back there to learn spanish for a few months. The Inca trail is brillian too. Do it if you have a chance....

Cusco is a great place - great culture, architecture, history, food & the people are very friendly. 3-4 months may be a bit long of a stay, but if you are working there, much of your time will be occupied anyway. There's a lot to do in the town itself as well as the surrounding area - Sacred Valley, Inca Trail, Macchu Pichu, Aguas Calientes. Pino & Lake Titicaca are a train ride or short flight away. I was there for 4 days last year on my way to Macchu Pichu & would go back in a heartbeat!

I've lived in Cusco for 9 months now, and I am certainly still not bored! You will find lots of volunteers and Spanish learners staying on longer than they had planned (pretty much all of the ones I've met!) because Cusco is so much fun. It's cheap, and for such a small place in the Peruvian, quite metropolitan, has lots of cool cafe's and bars (my favourites and Kukuly's for cappuccino and Siete Angelitos for live music). It also has interesting and cheap courses, so you can learn some new things along with your volunteering. I'm doing a contemporary dance class at the moment for example!
Do let me know if you need more info! Ariana
