| Sousse | sousse, alone for 2 weeks Posted: Sun July 8, 2007 05:20 PM UTC
I'm reading mixed reviews about sousse now. I've just booked 2 week in sousse mid Aug, as I originaly read it was a pretty traditional/cultural and chilled area. Now I'm reading about it being a kicking area. I always try to avoid the brits on the *** groups when I go away (hate them), I tend to try and find the traditional areas to explore.
Have I jumped in a bit early before doing my research. I naturaly thought with the local culture, drinking mobs would be the last thing I'd find there, apparently not. Anyone know what to expect? |

We had a day trip to Sousse in April. It was pretty busy then and by far the most touristy place we had been to and the souk was total hassle. Lord alone knows what it will be like in August. However, we maanged to get off the beaten path and it became more bearalbe. However, I wouldn't go back. Btw, we were staying in Mahdia which was lovely but then again, we were told that in July and August it is overun with Italians.

Thanks for the info. I'm quite happy to bop around the souks and get hassled by the local traders, I find it quite fun, after all its just their way of life and cultural differences. I had probably jumped in a bit quick but the place is loaded with history so that side may be fun.
My main concern; I havent got the idea that the place is gunna be full of drunken fools and yobs from the replies so maybe gunna be ok. Thanks for helping guys scrub

As most Tunisian beer is only 3% alcohol it's difficult to get lashed, as my drinking friends would say. Mid August is also so hot that even drinkers are reaching for the water bottles. Tunisians are generally friendly and welcoming. Sousse does have the advantage of being well placed for transport links if you want to get around a bit. Make the most of it.
