Bellagio Bellagio to Venice - By Hydrofoil and Train
Posted: Sat July 7, 2007 06:13 PM UTC
Can anyone help me with understanding the transportation from Bellagio to Como.

If I am reading the schedule correctly, on Friday, September 7 there is a hydorfoil that leaves Bellagio at 11:21 a.m. and arrives in Como at 12:11 p.m. I want to book the train from Como to Venice that leaves at 12:54 p.m. Do you think we will have enough time to get from the Ferry to the Train Station (we will only have about 40 minutes)? The station is Como S. Giovanni

I have read that it only takes 15 minutes by taxi from the ferry to the train station.

One last question, are the hydrofoils generally on time?

Tante Grazie.

No problem at all - Como is not a really large town. 15 minutes seems like an overestimate.

This train leaving at 12:54 is really an unusual situation...it's a direct train to Venice, but if you get off in Milan and catch a Eurostar, you'll get to Venice nearly an hour faster.

dep 12:54 Como (EuroCity #173)
arr 13:35 Milan
dep 13:55 Milan (EuroStar #9403)
arr 16:15 Venice (Santa Lucia)
standard fare 2nd class one way: 33.50 euro

or

dep 12:54 Como (EuroCity #173)
arr 17:09 Venice (Santa Lucia)
standard fare 2nd class one way: 25.50 euro

So, if price matters, or if you have no need to get to Venice as soon as possible and really don't want to go through the bother of getting off in Milan and back on another train, you can just stay on the EuroCity all the way...but if speed matters...

Very unusual to have this option ;-) Note that the EuroCity makes 3 more stops on the way to Venice than the Eurostar does.

Note, if you are getting these tickets in advance, ask for or look for the "Amica" fare, which is a 20% discount on a limited number of seats (which must be booked at least the day before).

From my experience (5 holidays on Lake Como), the ferries and hydrofoils all run very much to schedule.

With regard to only having 40 mins to reach the train station from the pier, I can ony say that if it were me I would regard that as more than ample time.
