Yangon Division Golfing around Yangon
Posted: Sat July 7, 2007 12:46 AM UTC
I noticed that there are at least a dozen good golf courses around Yangon. Does any one know of any 'golf societies' (like in Thailand), where expats and others who love to golf can link-up for matches (often discounted), transportation, socializing etc?

Thanks Vic

I'm sorry but I could not think of anything worse to do in this country. The people are very poor and downtrodden because of corrupt government practices but they are very obliging and "beautiful" people. Go to meet them and share your good fortune in small ways with them; see the countryside and observe so that you can take it back and maybe exert some political pressure back home but don't go so that all you do is meet expats.

As the previous poster already said, golfing isn't really the thing to do here. Anyways, there aren't an enourmous amount of expats here. And the locals that golf have let's say... how shall i put this... usually certain contacts.

If you come here, visit the country, see the amasing culture and experience the friendliness of the burmese. Golf you can play at home.

hi vic...

i do not agree with the other responses... i played in ycdc golf club when i was in yangon... it was certainly an experience... at that time the caddy fee was only usd1 for 18-holes... and your tips will go a long way... i was told to just tip them usd3... however, i understand that the caddy fee has since increased to usd5... an appropriate tip will go a long way to assist these caddies who depends very much on your generosity...

Good page for clubs in Myanmar is here:

http://www.golftoday.co.uk/clubhouse/coursedir/world/burma/index.html

and it includes links to specific golf clubs, though no mention of a golfing club or society.

Also - a few major hotels sorted by the golf course they are close to is here:
