Is it possible to travel from Amman to Damascus by railway?

All this information is according to Lonely planet. I have not used the train my self between Jorden and Syria. There is a twice a week serivce between Amman and Damascus on Monday and Thursday, Leaving @ 8 a.m.. the trip takes about 8 hrs. Another train departs Amman at the same dates and time. No food is sold on the train
