| Broome | Getting to Cairns Posted: Wed July 4, 2007 09:50 PM UTC
We are travelling to Australia in December 2007, flying into Perth. We will drive to Broome from Perth but then would like to get to Cairns from Broome. We are finding it impossible to get a flight and cannot find any other means of transport between Broome and Cairns. We don't really want to drive from Broome to Cairns.
Can you please make some suggestions? Many thanks |

Check with www.virginblue.com.au as they have flights out of Broome via Perth or Darwin back to Brisbane then on to Cairns. Depends on your budget. Bus to Darwin then fly out to cairns ? or bus it across to the east coast ? Depends on your time frame.
If you do end up driving check this website first for any deals on campervan return deals http://www.standbycars.com.au/oneways.aspx?cid=1

I would STRONGLY advise you dont drive from Broome to Cairns. That time of year is the wet season up there in the Kimberley and the roads have a tendancy to "flash flood"! you will also find that because it is the wet season flghts going in and out or Broome will be minimal. Its also VERY hot and humid!
If you want to fly you are going to have to do 2 different flights im pretty sure both Virgin and Qantas offer these also look at Skywest.....Broome-Darwin-Cairns, Broome-Brisbane-Cairns, Broome-Alice Springs-Cairns. There is a Greyhound bus that goes from Broome to Darwin..you could catch that then fly to Cairns From Darwin...but its a long drive and probably cheaper to catch a plane!

Airnorth and Skywest fly Broome/Darwin, and Qantas flies Darwin/Cairns. December is still pretty okay as far as the wet season goes. Roads generally aren't affected until January/February, if then.
