| Khartoum | visa for sudan Posted: Wed July 4, 2007 03:14 PM UTC
hi! i'm a myanmar passport holder, teaching in Karachi and im planing on comming to Sudan for a visit. Thing is, the Sudan consulate here in Islamabad is quite unhelpful, the man says they do not issue tourist visas, i need a reference from sudan to go to the Ministry Of Foreign Affairs or something to give my name and passport number, then i can get my visa through the consulate here. what a tedious process! i dont really understand it either, can anyone elaborate? thank you!
Regards, Mya xxx |

Hi Mya,
Sudanese embassies around the world can be very difficult, and are usually reluctant to give out tourist visas, so it's not just the one in Islamabad! A few years ago, I got a tourist visa at their embassy in Cairo, which was fairly simple...all i had to do was get a letter from my own embassy there, and present this letter along with a rough outline of my trip to the Sudanese embassy. My visa was issued in a couple of hours. On the ferry down the Nile to Wadi halfa, I met several travellers (all European though) who got visas either in Cairo or at a consulate in Aswan. Egypt was certainly the easiest place for Sudanese visas. This was in 2003/2004, so it may be a different story nowadays. One place you could try asking is in the Lonely Planet Thorn Tree forums, which probably has a few more people who are able to answer your question than this site...or you could try finding a way of contacting the Sudanese Embassy in Cairo. Another way would be to contact a travel agent based in Sudan...there are a few which come up in google searches. They should be able to arrange an invitation letter of some sort, which will help you get a visa through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. You'll probably have to book and pay for a tour though, so this could be a very expensive option. Good luck, and hope you manage to visit Sudan soon ;@P
