Hoping someone can tell me where is a decent place to stay and some of the good pubs in Blackpool. I know I'm not going during the best of times weather-wise, but nevertheless I will be there in Early November. I need a place to stay. Doesn't necessarily need to be the Ritz Carlton, but then again I don't want the Bates Motel either. Something decent for a modest price. I'm looking for something near the Empress Ballroom-somewhere within reasonable staggering distance because I will be drinking heavily celebrating the reunion of the Verve, which is why I will be in Blackpool in the first place. Also, I wouldn't mind knowing what the best combination of reliability and economy is for getting from Blackpool to Liverpool Airport, as I have a flight to Latvia the next day. Whoever can help out the best wins an ice cold pint of your choice, personally paid for by me. :)

Cheapest will be by coach, but it will take a long time (at least 3+ hrs) because it goes elsewhere. It will pick you up from the airport though. www.nationalexpress.com for times and fares (use the red 'click here to choose from a list of our most popular destinations' link on the 'airports' tab).

Or you can get the train (I would); might be a bit more expensive, but quicker. You'll need to get into Liverpool Station from the airport. Trains take around 1hr 45mins. www.nationalrail.co.uk for times and fares (the timetable for November won't be posted yet, but it will be much the same).

You can get a bus from the airport into Liverpool city centre (services 500, 80A/180 and 82A/82B ). This link has timetables etc: www.merseytravel.gov.uk

Can't help with accommodation, sorry; have never been to Blackpool (except once when was a tiny teen) and have no desire to re-visit!

Getting to Liverpool Airport is a trek, taxi will cost a small fortune. You could get the National Express from Blackpool to Liverpool, this will involve changing at Manchester and then you'd have to make your way from the middle of Liverpool to the airport. A similar situation with the trains, you'd have to change at Preston and then get from Liverpool to the airport.

If you have recently won the lottery, there are air taxis available between Blackpool and Liverpool airports.

There always used to be a train direct from Blackpool to Liverpool Lime Street? Not too far in a taxi from there to the airport.

www.blackpool-stay.co.uk is a good place to look. Ideally you want a hotel either on Adelaide Street or Albert Road. Very close to the Winter Gardens (and Empress Ballroom) and also within easy staggering distance of the nightlife!!

There are still direct trains from Liverpool Lime Street. Some require you to change, but some don't. Use the National Rail link to find out which train times best suit you. Return 'saver' fare at the moment is 13.70, which is surprisingly good but may well be different by November.
