Please advise what is the taxi cost for from airport to Mahe beach? Is there a taxi counter at the airport or do we need to negotiate a price with the taxi driver. I was quoted USD150 per person for private return transfer by the local Air Seychelles office.

When you say "Mahe Beach" is that a resort name or beach name? Ask for Jimmy when you get to the taxi stand out in front. We used him a couple of weeks ago. Very reliable. He charged 25 USD to take us to Beau Vallon. He also gave us a tour of the south and west coast of Mahe...he was the best. Very fair and honest.

Taxi's vary. Most have a meter in them but there are a few that don't(ask). There is a taxi queue at the airport on exit from arrival lounge. From the airport you won't travel anymore than 25 mins in either direction on the main island so $150 pp seems VERY excessive to me.
Bear in mind that ALL taxi drivers will be willing to negotiate a price if you aren't happy with the going rate. Once you are in a taxi leaving from airport,ask for a contact card so you can arrange a return trip to the airport and agree a price. This will be much cheaper and they will be more than happy to oblige.

You may want to contact your hotel and see if they can make arrangements for you. When we arrived, we took the first taxi we found at the airport and it cost us U.S. $50. We were going to the Hilton Northolme at Beau Vallon Beach. We didn't know we'd been taken advantage of and didn't negotiate. Upon checkout, we made arrangements through the hotel to get a taxi to the boat docks (farther away than the airport) and it only cost us $10!
