Terezin Travel Forum

I'm planning to be in Prague this month and want to go for a day to Terezin. I want to go on my own, not with a group.

What is the best way to get there from Prague - bus or train? If bus, where do I get the bus? If train, from which station does it depart and is it a direct train, or do I have to transfer? If you know fares and bus/train frequency, that would be a bonus. Thanks in advance.

It seems that the only way to get there is by bus. That's fine, especially since the last 2 buses are at 18:43 and 20:13 on weekdays (according to www.idos.cz). The trip is approximately one hour and costs 67/72 Kc one way. I'll compare it with the tours but the freedom to spend as much time as I want will probably trump everything else. Assuming I take the 9:00 bus, I get there at 10:00, which leaves me 10 hours to visit the site - more than enough time, I presume.

Ramot - I can't document where I read this but there are one or two comments, maybe even on VT, that the late busses sometimes just don't bother to show up. Terezin is only a stop on the way to and from a larger town somewhat north (???Lutowice). Make sure they are going to run. These people implied that the last reliable bus was around 1530.

I went to Terezin with the public transportation and there was no problem with the buses. I took the 14:13 bus back to Prague from the stop across the street from the information office at the museum site. It came more or less on time.
