Saint Petersburg Money Exchange
Posted: Sat June 30, 2007 02:00 AM UTC
We will be travelling from Helsinki to SP by Sibelius train on 8 July (i.e. Sunday) and arriving at about 14:00. Should I have the money exchange on the train? Or wait until we arrive SP? Which one has the better exchange rate? Will the banks close on Sunday?

Thanks for any help in advance!

what I remember from Moscow : money-exchange is possible at many places also on sundays and even untill midnight at some places. Its mostly small counters in the streets.
In any case : ATM is always the best !

You can probably get a better exchange rate at any bank in St. Petersburg. Most in the center are open 7 days a week.
The government bank, Sberbank usually has the worst rate, and once gave me a counterfeit bill!
But there are usually one or two exchange banks per block in the center to choose from.
Bankomats, or ATMs are easy but higher fees than an exchange if not your bank.
American Express travelors checks are not widely used yet.

Thanks a lot! I think we will not use ATM because we are from Asia and don't have the banks in SP. We will exchange it upon our arrival instead of on the train.
