| Aswan | Any good tour guide/excursion companies in Aswan? Posted: Fri June 29, 2007 10:50 PM UTC
Hello,
Could you recommend me a good excursion company that offers trips to Abu Simbel, Temple of Philae and the unfinished oblisque? Good, reliable and competitive prices would be a bonus :) Thanks! Kay |

Momo has the right idea. Arrive in Aswan and check at the counter for a ride to Abu Simbel, typically a van will come by the hotel early in the morning for the part-day trip. There's no urgency to reserve now, but don't delay after you arrive in Aswan. See my tips for transportation at Aswan, Abu Simbel, Temple of Philae. For Temple of Philae, take the train from Aswan to the dam (at that point it's a commuter train that costs very little), then walk to the dock to catch a boat to the temple. Here, no reservations are necessary, and if you want to save money, do not reserve through a travel agency.

Hi,
most hotels in Aswan will have someone representing a tour company who will visit on certain days and can organise the trip for you (even if you are not there with their company). If not there are a few travel companies who advertise these trips. I'd recommend catching a flight rather than using a coach. It costs a bit more but you don't have to leave at silly-o-clock in the morning and you're back at a reasonable time. If I remember rightly it cost me about £75 at the most for transfer, flight and guide. People I spoke to who went on the coach trip said it wasn't too bad but they had to leave at about 5am and my tendency to have a few beers on a night made me think the plane was a better idea. Definitley go to Abu Simbel though, it's awesome. Likwise trips to Philae can be booked the same way, it's cheap as... short minibus trip and v short boat ride; well worth going. Alternatively use a taxi and pay for a small motor boat or felluca to take you (if you're happy without a guide and your bartering is up to scratch). Hope you enjoy. Al.
