| Lima | side trips Posted: Thu June 28, 2007 08:09 AM UTC
hi, i am going to peru in august and starting off in lima for 5 days. i've read the lima pages and tips and i have a good idea of what to do when we're there. i am going with my brother and my mom, so it's not like we're going to do bar-hopping or club-hopping every night. my mom was wondering if there are cities or towns that we could go to from lima as a day-trip. i looked on the "off the beaten path" pages but nothing seemed interesting.. is there really nothing to do outside of lima?

You can check the Peru Travel Forum, there is a thread that covers some of what you are looking for. Flor (besbel) suggested Caral. Pisco and Paracas and Nasca are also suggested (if feasable). You could go up the Carretera Central to Chosica. Don't forget Pachacamac, also close to Lima. North of Lima the Lomas de Lachay national park. In Miraflores the ayuntamiento has nice day-tours, as well as the Vista-bus, see my pages. Nevertheless, Lima itself has a lot to offer.

Hey there,
Lima is not the greatest city for "so many things to do there" and so isnīt the surrounding. Like you heard before chosica is one option - about 1 1/2 hours by bus - there are many signs in the city telling you where to go to have a nice tour through the city. Within Lima there are the two ruins (Pucllana and Huallamarca) in Miraflores - small but nice to see if your mom likes things like that. A lot of travel agencys offer day trips to Pisco, Ica or Paracas where they have some attractions also - but I read that itīs not the safest area for tourists within Peru and usually it is stressful to just go there, look and go back... but maybe that would be an option for you wanting to see something more then just Lima. Have fun! liebe grüsse Verena www.peru.info

As a Day trip, you can do the City Tour: (Visit Lima's Downtonwn, and districts of San Isidro, Miraflores and Barranco, or you can do The Caral Tour, as Noel wrote.
BTW, Barranco has many restaurants and pubs, and has nice nightlife, perhaps yo want to go there. Those districts are safe, so don't worry. If there's something else I can help you, just drop me a few lines at brocca@turismoinkaiko.net Let's keep in contact!
