| Gansu Sheng | Accommodation recommendations Posted: Wed June 27, 2007 04:20 AM UTC
Our current route is approximately Xining -- Huatugou -- Charklik (Ruoqiang) -- Hotan -- Karghilik (Yecheng) -- Yarkand (Shache) -- Kashgar -- Karakul -- Tashkurgan -- Kashgar -- Kuqa -- Yining (Sayram Lake) -- Bu'erjin -- Hanas Lake -- Tian Chi -- Urumqi -- Turpan -- Dunhuang -- Lanzhou. We're travelling in the month of July.
Does anyone have any personal recommendations for accommodation in any of these destinations? We could spend up to 200 RMB/night for a twin with ensuite, but of course trying to keep it way below that for most of the time. A standard of 100 RMB/night should be quite sufficient. To clarify, I have Lonely Planet 2005, Lonely Planet 2007 as well as Rough Guide 2005, and have looked through them. Guidebooks don't really have ALL the information, so personal recommendations would be very much appreciated. We already have a place to stay in Xining. If you have the address and phone number that'd be enough, no particular need for email addresses! Thanks in advance. :) |

Oops. Sorry, Ellyse. I didn't see this before your trip. In fact, I was traveling in Xinjiang during July. I will keep a closer eye on the northwest locations posts in the future. I have close friends with hotel connections in Urumqi and Kashgar. Two years ago I bargained for a room for 120 kwai at the Muslim Mansion in Xining. It was top notch. Spent three years in Lanzhou so I have a few recommendations there. I also know of a good hotel in Dunhuang so again, sorry to have missed your post.

Hey no worries. I should be visiting Xinjiang again sometime in the future, so if you don't mind posting your accommodation information here, I'll be happy to take notes. :)
