Waterton Lakes National Park How hard is the Crypt Lake Trail?
Posted: Tue June 26, 2007 08:53 PM UTC
Hi, My husband and I will be visiting Waterton in August, he really wants to hike the Crypt Lake trail. Some things I read make it seem not too bad, others I have read make it seem like you need to be able to run a marathon to hike it. I am in my early 30's and in good health, I am not an avid runner or exerciser but I don't consider myself a couch potato either. Do you think most people could handle this hike if they are in relatively good health?
Thanks!
Jayciel

Hi. If you are in relatively good health & physical shape you won't have much trouble with the trail. I did it when I was 3 months pregnant.... so I think anyone can do it! I was probably in about the same physical shape as you (except the pregnant part!) when I did the hike, so I don't think you'll have any problems.

The trail is amazing - it will blow you away. I really recommend that anyone who is physically able should do this hike once in their lifetime. I think I have some pics from our hike on my Waterton page, if you're interested.

Do make sure you are familiar with wildlife safety rules & know what to do if you happen to encounter a bear or cougar on the hike. There are a lot of bears & cougars in Waterton park, so fore-warned is fore-armed.

Please let me know if I can answer any other questions for you. I live 2 hours from Waterton & I get down there a lot so I am pretty familiar with the area.
