| Brisbane | Brisbane to Sydney to Melbourne Posted: Mon June 25, 2007 12:38 PM UTC
My friend is suggesting driving from Brisbane to Sydney and proceed to Melbourne. Any help will be great, such as suggestions for lodging on the way.

As Craic said it's a long way, roughly 2,500 kilometres. If you have plenty of time it's a good drive with plenty of places to stop and enjoy. If you're just getting from Brisbane to Melbourne without sightseing on the way, be careful. The biggest killer on our country roads is driver fatigue. Take turns driving, stop every two hours or so to break the monotony and to freshen up.
There are excellent motels all the way, just stop at one you like the look of. You can check the room before you decide to stay if you want to.

Sorry, I hit the wrong key. The distance is about 2,000km - but that's still a long way :-)

Are you planning on driving inland or along the coast? Inland is quicker but obviously along the coast is much more pretty. To be honest with you, this is the kind of trip that you should just do without any major plans (especially if you have no time issues). There are so many good places to stop at along the way that it's impossible to pick a few to stay at. It depends on what you like as well. Do you want historical towns or party places or what?

Many thanks for all the replies. Yes, it is a long trip, but will not rush through, stopping along the way. Have decided to go. It is not for holiday, it is for a purpose. Need to go to Melbourne, by car. The weather doesn't seems good this time round. I am reading the flood warnings for East Gippsland and it seems pretty serious. Suggestions needed which route is better to avoid that stretch. Thanks again.
