Myrtle Beach Unjustly evicted from hotel
Posted: Mon June 25, 2007 12:09 AM UTC
My family just returned from Myrtle Beach where we had a horible experience with Captain's Quarters Hotel. On our 1st nite we got in the hot tub which bleached all of our swim suits completely white. Upon trying to see the Mgr. the next morning , we were put off for several hours, she said she was too busy interviewing and would call us in our room "later".That afternoon we went to the lobby where she became agitated at seeing us return and immediately became loud and obnoxious with us, finally ordering us to leave the hotel. We tried hard to reason with her but she was completely irrational and obviously stressed out. We were given a refund for our remaining stay but they kept that nights hotel charge. She said since it was after check out time(it was 12:30) they had every right to and since we had paid with a debit card , they would only refund back to our debit which took 5 days to post.Naturally,we had to find a new hotel and use our remaining cash to pay for it in the interim leaving us financially strapped and unable to do the things we had planned on with our family.
My question is: has anyone else had any such experience and do I have any recourse to recoup the money I lost ?
I am trying to locate a headquarters or corp. office for them but with no luck.
This hotel is obviously in crisis , the staff was all stresses and complaining and this incident was so out of control by the manager's behavior. I am so upset that the vacation we had planned for over a year could be ruined by something like this happening and now that I am home , want to see to it that someone is held responsible.
Thanks for any help anyone can give me on how to proceed.

It does not seem that the hotel is part of a large chain franchise so I do not think it will be possible to go beyond the manager, unless you can find out the actual owners. You could see if there is a local/state "Better Business Bureau" that may be able to give you some advice.

If you check out TripAdvisor.com, you will see a couple other negative reports, one which resulted (apparently) in a serious bacterial ear infection. If I were you, I would search out all the hotel sites that accept reviews and post your story there so that others can be warned. I would also probably send a letter to the hotel and let them know this is what you are going to do/have done.

Good luck!

That's terribly unfortunate but at least you know where not to return to. Do others a favor and post your reviews of the hotel and next time read others reviews before booking. I hope the rest of your holiday went well?

I hope the rest of your vacation was ok after that, what an upsetting thing to happen. It would be to your advantage next time to use a credit card for staying at a hotel and if a terrible thing like this were to happen again, you can then dispute the charges and your credit card will go to bat for you.

After 40 years of beach trips I find it hard to believe they would "evict" a guest without a good reason. It would be interesting to hear the managers side of it and perhaps other guests who no doubt witnessed part of it.
Couple years ago a very loud and obnoxious trio (guy, girlfriend and sister) checked into building where we were staying. Rude and offensive language. Rough horseplay and sometimes violent reaction from the guy if girlfriend scratched him. People would leave the pool area when they were around. After two days they were "asked" to leave.
Yes they made a scene in the parking lot about how they were the "victims" and "it wasn't right".
Only other "eviction" was 30 years ago. Guy caught red handed stealing a wallet. Two choices. Pack bags or police. He left without a word.
