Butuan City Travel Forum

My best friend is planning a trip to Butuan City this Fall to meet what he says is to be his future wife. He met this gal online. Is travel safe in this area? Has anyone had experience with situations like this? I just want my friend to be safe and not get his feelings hurt.

you never know what to expect when meeting some1 off the net. plus its bit risky to expect this person to be his wife! you could always plan the trip and go there on mates week away and meet her together rather than him meeting a total stranger in another country alone

yes it is safe, philippine is a peacefull country, so dont worry

I agree that it is a bit risky to meet her by himself specially if he is a foreigner and he only met this gal on net. I will be in mindanao around that time, Email me coz I might be able to help.

any country you go is risky even in UK, many foreigner stay in butuan actually i stay there for 2 years as a medical practitioner i havent encounter any untoward incident because butuan city one of the peacefull place in mindanao.

A friend of mine did the exact same thing a few years ago and he is a cautious kind of guy. He really likes it there and he ( and his wife ) went there recently and he loves it. Yes he met his wife through some sort of arrangement and they have now been married for 11 years and have 2 great kids so why not, go for it if he believes it`s right

I think its more dangerous to be travelling to London these days then the Philippines. Besides, he's a grown man...let him do what he wants. I have a girlfriend in the Philippines and have made 9 visits there in the past 3 years. More westerners should try looking for a wife there because the women are incredibly beautiful, warm, and devoted to family.

Butuan City is a safe place.My husband was safe when he met there.Actually,we are planning to visit my family there this year f GOD's willing.Why don't give a try?

Since some of these posts are a little old: Is Butuan City still a safe place for an American to travel? I would be traveling with my Phil Girl Friend to meet her sister who lives there. We are coming from Cebu, so I guess I'll be riding the ship for 12 hours. Is there cabins on the ship? It appears that the overall place to stay is the Almont Inland Resort in Butuan City. Is this still true? How much does it cost per night (pesos or us dollar) to stay there? Thanks for any help.
