Taroudannt NICE PLACE TO STAY

Does anyone have any recommendations of somewhere nice for a couple to stay in Taroudannt?
We would like air con and a pool - is air con necessary in August?

Many thanks.
We like the look of La Gazelle but they are fully booked! Do you know of anywhere similar?

Hi. we stayed here - Palais Salem Hotel - in November last year (2006). It's very good quality with two aspect; traditional rooms in the palais and a more contemporary modern section. It has two pools (warm enough to use even in November), beautifully cool gardens and a very relaxed with lots of space. It is located right in the town walls so is very convenient to wander into the town with or without a guide. Very recommended, if you want any more info feel free to ask.

Is it your first time in Morocco? If it is then maybe you should stay in a Riad. But there are also a lot of hotels available that look nice and have pools. I think air con would be a good idea. Have you looked at any of the guidebooks on Morocco? That would be a good place to start as Lonely Planet (lonelyplanet.com) only list places where they have actually stayed. Alternatively have a look at The Best of Morocco site. Do you use YouTube? If you type in Morocco or Riads then you get a very good idea of what you can expect.

I might be being cynical but I'd be wary of believing that LP writers only report of hotels that they have stayed in. I think the best way is to Google for hotels in the towns you intend to stay in and see what that turns up, then try and find the website of any hotels that you like the sound or price of, then search this and other travel forums to read reviews of people that have stayed hotel and pay attention to the date of their visit, the length of time that they have been on the forum and any other reviews that they might have posted. If they leave a contact Email you could contact the reviewer, I do this mostly find that genuine travellers are only too happy to give you their opinion.
You might not believe this but some hotels post their own glowing reviews posing as customers, or even trash competitors.

Although it doesn't have a pool, I'd highly recommend Hotel Taroudant. It's a very nice place to stay and great value.
