My wife and I along with our 19 yr old daughter are flying in and out of Alghero ,spending six nights in the area .As yet no firm plans or bookings.Generally thinking of travelling just a little bit ,perhaps hiring a car....just sunning ..snorkelling/diving...and a bit of sight-seeing.
Any tips on where to stay..how best to book...is the train ride a good idea ...car hire ...etc. would be appreciated...Thanks

When are you flying in and out of Alghero?
since these days till middle of August would be every day harder and harder to find a place to stay.
my main advice is.. since now, hire a car BEFORE (and from OUTSIDE) of Sardinia.

You could pick up lonely planet or rough guide Sardinia cheap on ebaY or amazon. Lots of information from the airport website

Yes wehave hired a car.
Arriving 12 th July to 18 th.No accomodation booked as yet...any recommendations of places.??
I guess we are thinking of staying in/around Alghero on 12 perhaps 13 th. and ? 18 th. With some touring inbetween.

Hi Joe

Expect my first choice of hotel (Where we'll be staying 6-22 August) will be full, I think you really need to book up quickly, that week is the ferragosoto holiday and some may be reluctant to offer 2 days and lose the chance of getting a clean week booking (as elsewhere Italy generally) that time. You'll e OK ! No panic but you do really want to get this sorted next few days I would suggest
