| Phoenix | Phoenix in September Posted: Fri June 22, 2007 02:28 PM UTC
We fly into the Phoenix airport at the end of September and thought about driving up to Sedona for a day or two before settling into our hotel in Phoenix. How long of a drive might this be? 2 hours or more? Is it really worth visiting Sedona or is it pretty much the same as Phoenix? Last year we visited all the surrounding areas in Phoenix and we've heard that Sedona is somewhat different from Phoenix. Thanks for the info. Cheryl

Don't even use the two cities in the same breath, they are that different.
Phoenix (actually several cites, including Phoenix) is a mtropolitan area of around 3.5 million people. Endless miles of concrete, but great if you are into shopping (malls), nightclubbing, and resorts. Sedona, on the other hand, is a smallish town. Nothing really remarkable about the town, some nice galleries and art stores, but mostly touristy shops. But it is the surrounding area that is just fantastic. It is hard to try to describe, so why don't you check out the pictures in my album from our latest trip there. http://www.imagestation.com/album/pictures.html?id=2092660629

It is definitely worth it to go to Sedona. It will still be very warm in Phoenix (dont be surprised if it is still 100 degrees) and Sedona will be about 20 degrees cooler. The drive takes 2 hours (more if you travel during rush hour in Phoenix). Sedona is much smaller and is full of art galleries and resorts and spas and beautiful mountain scenery. Phoenix is starting to become more like LA so they are very different.

Thanks bluejaxx. The more I read, the more I want to visit Sedona. I just want to relax and that seems like a good place to do it.
