Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Hamilton Travel options to Niagra from Hamilton
Posted: Wed June 20, 2007 08:13 PM UTC
I'm flying in to Hamilton airport in September, and have a hotel booked the same night in Niagra. I know it isn't far to travel, but the flight time has changed and I won't be getting to Hamilton now until after 6pm.

Could anyone give me details on how late public transport runs from Hamilton to Niagra, and what the best travel option might be for a couple with luggage? How much might a taxi cost over that distance? I'm more concerned with doing it in the quickest time rather than cheapest cost (within reason!), although I don't want to hire a car for this one trip.

Thanks

Shim

There's plenty of transit, but you may want to go to the Hamilton touist bureau, for details. Also, you may find it more practical to stay in Hamilton overnight and move on very early the next day if you're arriving late. You don't indicate where you're coming from, how late you're arriving, etc. so it's hard to give you much info.

Most people here that have answers, check you home page, you have nothing about you, and they're not going to invest the time. You need to fix your home page, and you'll be amazed at the help you'll get. Pix make all the difference.

Thank you for your very unhelpful response.

There is enough information in my original question for someone to give a sensible reply - if you read carefully, you will even see that I say what time I am arriving - where I am coming from is irrelevant to my need to travel to Niagara.

I have posted responses to questions and received plenty of help from others - and all without needing to know who the person is I am helping - like most here, I prefer to remain anonymous.

I have an answer to my question, which was obtained without needing to provide any of the information you seem to think I should provide - for anyone else who might want to know, it is $120-$132 dollars by taxi.

Shimrod, Betty was trying to help. Blasting people on a forum is a bit much. VT is a wonderful community and I am sure we all get eneough agro at work and home.

As for being a 'Blank', the odds of a blank staying on VT, participating fully and rating tips actually used to travel is a low percentage. Yes there are exceptions, but we don't get paid for the amazing amount of hours we put in.

Also, we would like to see a pic of you or at least your travels. That's one of the great thing about VT - we get to know each other rather than icons. How about just a name, so we know how to address you?

If you want any information on places I have been, please email me. Glad to help.

All the best Shimrod & Betty,

DAO

Shim, you said: "where I am coming from is irrelevant to my need to travel to Niagara."

There is an aspect of that which could prove important. If your flight was 30 minutes, then you will most likely be fresh and willing/able to travel further. If, however, you've just flown in relatively direct from Singapore, then you and your wife will most likely be extremely tired, not feeling so fresh and just wanting to get someplace quickly so you can clean up and get some sleep.

I'm glad you found the information you were looking for, however. :-) In this instance I'm afraid that I could not be of any assistance whatsoever as I've not been to that part of the country for about 30 years so my information would be a touch out of date... <grin>

Hey Shim!

Well I do not know if you need help anymore with this question. I would have replied earlier but I just joined a few days ago.

To your question though

You can take a greyhound bus to niagara falls. It will cost about $50 for the tickets and the ride will be almost four hours. I do not know the departure times available because it depends on the day. You can go to their website at http://www.greyhound.ca and it has a little system where you can enter all your information.

You also can take VIA train to Niagara falls. It cost about $50 aswell. The time would be about an hour and a half. Again the departure times depend on the day you arrive. You can go to their site at http://www.viarail.ca When you are looking for the station that is located for hamilton go to ALDERSHOT. The station is actually in burlington ( which is right beside Hamilton, and the station is close to the Hamilton 'border'. It is about 10 minutes into Burlington ( it is located by la salle park which is on the waterfront when I went there for my prom - la salle park- it took about twenty minutes to get there from the hamilton mountain, which is where the airport is located)

These are two ways to get to niagara falls from hamilton. They are pretty cheap too. To get to the stations you'll most likely take a taxi. The starting rate for the taxi drivers are about 4 - 5 bucks.

When you call the taxi place to get a taxi tell them you do not know how to get where you are going ( so they won't send you a stupid driver ). If you want to save a little on the taxi ride ask how much it will cost when you first step in. They will give you a price and if your okay with that ask if you can pay them that right there. Usually they give you a lower price than what it really will cost.

I think it would cost way more than $200 to take a taxi to niagara falls. Just for me to take a taxi from Eastgate ( a mall ) to the waterfront ( a ten minute drive ) was about 20 bucks. Plus there is talk about raising the taxi fees right now so the cost will be way higher by the end of the summer maybe.

I am not aware of any other train service in Hamilton, and not familiar with travel transportation in the hamilton area. There is a GO bus service that we have, but it does not service the Niagara area. It goes towards Toronto. I tell you this because it you find any transportation that is faster from the Toronto area or the Hamilton area you can take the GO Bus. It is cheap, fast, and runs late and frequent.

I hope I have helped you, if you needed help or not anymore. I laughed at the other answers aswell ( at how much they did not answer your question )

Hi Botta,

Thanks for the reply, although it's about 11 months too late.

I booked with Hamilton Limo - cost $120 for the trip which I didn't think was too bad, but they dropped us at the wrong Sheraton, so we had another $10 trip on top of that!
