Riyadh Travel Forum

Hi VT Members,

We have been in Riyadh for over 6 months now and it's getting kinda boring. Have done a couple of weekend trips to Bahrain and one to Dubai. Can anyone suggest any weekend getaways around Riyadh with driving time ranging from 2 hours to 7 or 8 hours.

you could also try dir-riyah, the old city of riyadh, which is almost in ruins, but good for a one day visit. You will find signboards on king Fahd road for Dir-Riyah, while heading north. just follow the signs and u will reach there easily. oh, btw, its closed on fridays. so u can visit only on thurdays.

Other than that you can pick up a copy of "Handbook of treks around riyadh" from any major boook stores (notably "Jarir bookstore" )

I bought one and it contains various picnics and adventure drives (read 4WD) varying from 1day to 5days in duration.

well, how about a trip to Farasan Icleands using the new economey airlines (NAS).

or maybe Jubail industrial city (4.5 hours)

I can't really think of any other places...if you're willing to drive up to 8 hours, you may as well go to Jeddah (7-9 hours depends how fast you drive)

Qassim is not far, but i wouldn't suggest you go there...there is not much to do or to see there.

With cheap airline companies, just fly to wherever you like.

Outside of KSA, Dubai is actually 9 hours by road, Bahrain 4.5, Doha 5, Kuwait 7.5, Oman 12+ depending on where you are going.
