| Naga City | OTHER sights to see/things to do in Naga? Posted: Sat June 16, 2007 08:50 PM UTC
I was in Naga recently and wondered if there were other places of interest apart from the churches, the archbishop's palace, UNC and Ateneo de Naga. Are there historical sites? Houses of famous people? What else does Naga have to offer? Where are the best bargains for woven baskets, native bags? Nightlife?

are you looking for something that is within the city? or around the city?
you can go to pili - a mere 10 to 15 min ride away. nightlife in naga - not as rowdy as in manila, but you can catch a few bands a Avenue Mall, hang out at restaurants along Concepcion. woven baskets and native bags - you can get this at the market.

naga has a lot of offer. check out the Quince martires monument. its one of the best monuments erected in the country, in honor of the 15 martyrs of bicolandia.
dont forget the Holy Rosary Minor Seminary located beside the naga metropolotan cathedral. the structure has been inscribed as part of our National historical treasure. do check out the lovely Basilica minode del penafrancia. you could also pay your respects to one of the country's greatest civil servant :Raul Roco. his remains were buried on the cemetery opposite the penafrancia basilica. try to drive to Pili, and check out the facilities at the CWC or the camsur watersports complex. one of the worlds best cable boarding facilities. try to check my blog, http://www.byahilo.com Quince martires monument post is here,http://www.byahilo.com/quince-martires-monument/

Thank you for the tips. I've seen the martyrs' monument, but then again didn't pay much attention to it. I refer to it when I get confused kung nasaang one-way street na ako. :) Didn't know that Roco was buried near the Basilica.
The baskets and other native goods are priced relatively the same as those sold in Manila. Where do they source their items? Albay?

hi, mai!
yes, sen. roco is buried at the cemetery across the basilica. i think sto. niño ang name nung cemtery. some of the native bags are from albay - it is actually cheaper to get it there :)

most historical sites will be those that pertain to the Catholic religion... you can go visit the several churches in the city proper (there must be about 7 or 8 of them)as well as those in the surrounding areas (some of these are quite old and historical). You can also go hiking up Mt. Isarog for a day (it is only about 15-20 minutes away from the city proper). You can both choose to stay in one to picnic and swim or climb higher and visit 2 more waterfalls. There is also a hot spring resort in the area.
While in the city please don’t forget to visit Universidad de Santa Isabel (Colegio de Sta. Isabel), the first normal school in the country. Have fun in Naga!
