Hi Rennie,
Transport is available 24/7, taxis are cheap and easy to find. The one I've GOT to try this time over is the blue and white mini-buses that go every whichway during the day. My oracle in Luxor is an Irish lady who has lived there for 5/6 years now. She tells me that all you have to do is jump on and give the driver 25 piastas per person and you can stay on till the end of the route and give him another 25….giving him 1EL per person would absolutely make his day…. and go back the way you came or get off somewhere and jump onto another going another way she says it is a brilliant way to see Luxor at ten pence per head per mini-bus ride. Check out her site "egyptwithmara"and give it a good old browse. Depending on your budget she may have the ideal tour or trip for you. You will not be disappointed. If not Mara; use another,....Mara will even recommend someone more suited to your needs...., local rep. It keeps the money in Luxor instead of putting it in the pocket of a global tour company. Whoopsie, no politics Jim. "Why not?"......says the little devil on my left shoulder. Anyway have a wonderful time in Luxor, and if I were you I'd start saving for next year before you go this time. It is quite addictive. Peace and Love...Jim... P.S. I nearly forgot to plug my favourite Felucca Man. "Captain Tayib". You will find him beside the Metropolitan on the Corniche opposite Luxor Temple, ask one of the staff ‘cos if you ask another felucca man where to find him, he might just admit to being Capt Tayib himself. Capt Tayib has two boats “Eva Stahl” and "First Love".

Sorry have no idea about transport only to say that the local taxi are very cheep but be sure to set a price before getting in. The trips are very much cheaper by going with the locals, very near the old winter palace hotel is a travel agents called Jolleys check out the pices there, we have done some trips with them they are cheap and reliable. Also there is a guy called Hassan he stands over the road from the luxor temple he works with the egyptologits in the winter and takes the tourists in the summer he can show you things that the reps never will, in 2005 we took a tour with him and we saw a mummy still in its tomb. Please check out the locals first dont waste all your holiday money on tours with the reps. Hope this helps and have a good holiday.

I would not go with an arranged tour. Go with a normal west bank taxi or west bank car :) I know one who takes you anywhere on west bank for 5 LE . Ask him to wait for you to go back, or to go to the next site, he does so for another 5. I usually give him a good tip, just because he never asks for it.
He is called "The eagle", will be happy to give you his number.
