| Melaka | Is Melaka worth a visit? Posted: Wed June 13, 2007 05:54 AM UTC
Hi! I just arrived in KL this morning and I have to be in Singapore on the 19th to catch a plane to Tokyo. I plan on staying in Singapore for 3 days which leave me 3 days to split between KL and Melaka. Should I stay in KL for 2 nights and then head to Melaka on the 15th and leave for Singapore the next day? Or should I just stay in KL for 3 days and not visit Melaka?

It would be ideal to spend 2 nights in KL then the last night in Melaka. Melaka is actually on the way to Singapore from KL, and its about 2 hrs from KL and about 2 hrs to S'pore.
There will be many buses from KL to Melaka and also Melaka to S'pore. Its worth a while to visit Melaka. Have a safe journey!

Im from the Philippines. Been to Malaysia for a very short 2-full days. One day was spent scuba diving in Tioman Island, the other day exploring the streets and sights and food of Melaka.
Visit Harmony Street. Try the famous Chicken Rice Ball. Go to the "88" store and order "Chendol". I would want to believe that Melaka is more "Malaysian" than KL. Happy trip!

Melaka is well worth it, it is rich in history and great food! If you haven't been to Penang, this is certainly a nice place to visit. The Chinatown area is very interesting. I believe there are bus services to Singapore from Melaka, so you don't have to backtrack to KL.

Hi!
Melaka offers something that you can't find in both KL & Singapore, definitely worth to visit the city. Moreover, it is sandwhiched btw KL & Singapore and quite conveneit to go. Both KL & Singapore are big cities & quite similar while historic Melaka is more laid back with most of its historical sights still well preserved. You can also sample the various local dishes in Melaka and go to the weekend nite market in Jonker Walk. -m-

Checkout Melaka for one night, it's on the way down to Singapore.

Since you are already in KL, I suggest you stay 2 nites in Melaka. Jonker Street nite bazaar is a must, have a cool beer at one of the 2 open air pubs opposite each other. Visit the historical sites (Studhuys, St Francis Xavier's tomb, Hang Tuah's Well, Bukit China: read about their interesting history on the formation of the great Malaccan Empire which stretched across M'sia and Indonesia) get some souveniers and shop at Mahkota. Remember to drink their chendol (opposite the Studhuys along the road), try their chicken rice balls (at corner shop behind the chendol stall, across the river). Walk along their China Town and Little India (they are along 2 parallel streets next to each other). If you stay at Hotel Puri, there's a little museum in it about the former philantrophist owner Tan Kim Seng. It's also conveniently located behind Jonker Street.
Note as all these are within walking distances, you will need time to move about to catch the atmosphere. Hence 3 days 2 nites (fri and Sat) wld be just about right. Furthermore, whilst in Singapore, try the chicken rice, visit China Town and Little India. Note the differences in these between KL, Malacca and Singapore. Would love to hear your view. Hope you will enjoy your stay. Cheers.
