Ottawa Question on Museum of Civilization
Posted: Wed June 13, 2007 03:25 AM UTC
I'm going to Ottawa and my time is limited. I am traveling with wife and daughter and neither really likes museums. I have gotten them to concede to go to one and I chose Museum of Civilization. However, because of the other things we have planned and the way the times work out, I'll only have about an hour and a half (90 minutes). I'm not the type that wants to see every show or read every plaque. We are skipping the Postal museum portion and the IMAX and my daughter is a teenager and not interested in the kid stuff. Given this info, will I be able to see the highlights in 90 minutes?

That's too bad about your wife and daughter not liking museums! I was going to say that's like planning a trip to Orlando with people who hate amusement parks... and then I noticed your name!

I spent an afternoon at the Museum of Civilization in 2003. Good call on skipping the IMAX and the Postal Museum. I just looked over the website to refresh my own memory of the museum's layout, and what I found most impressive of all was what they call "the Canada Hall" on level 3. They actually have the entire museum plotted out by the amount of time it'll likely take you to see everything:

The reason why I'd suggest the "Canada Hall" (third floor) above others is because of the life-sized movie-set quality of the displays. I'd imagine that for people who don't even like museums, they'd at least enjoy that portion. And according to the link above, you'd spend anywhere from 45-60 minutes on that floor alone.

Thanks for the reply. I'll check out that web site. So skipping the IMAX and Postal is a good way to cut down on time and not really miss much. That's good to know. I certainly appreciate any advice commentary that you have. Thanks...
