| Kaohsiung | Teaching in Kaohsiung Posted: Tue June 12, 2007 03:45 AM UTC
I'm planning to go to Taiwan to teach English and I want to be somewhere coastal or close enough to coastal. Is Kaohsiung a good area? If not, can anyone suggest some good locations. We don't want to be in Taipai. Thanks.

Kaohsiung is pretty urban, I think you would have to go quite some distance to get to a nice beach. Think about Tainan, it's a a smaller city about 50km north of Kaohsiung. The beaches aren't great but they are handy to the city, you could even live on the coast if you wanted. I lived there for seven years, it's not a bad place at all.

I wouldn't consider Kaohsiung a "beach city" per se but it really is a great urban city to live in that isn't as packed as Taipei.
