| Belgrade | Belgrade in july Posted: Mon June 11, 2007 06:52 PM UTC
Hi
We are going to Belgrade in july. I have a few questions. I have been looking at hotels. Cheap ones. Does anyone know if Hotel Royal is ok? I see Lonely planet give them ok reviews as a budget hotel. Is there tourist/guidebuses in Belgrade? What is the must see places? and how many days would you need in Belgrade to feel that you have seen the city? Thanks :) |

Hi
I stayed at Hotel Royal for a couple of nights last month. It is absolutely fine as budget hotels go. The location is good - just a few minutes walk from Kalemegdan Citadel and the busy pedestrianised street of Kneza Mihailova. If you arrive in the city on a bus from the airport, be aware that the hotel is a long walk from the train station and from Slavija Square (the two drop off points). There are lots of cafes, bars, restaurants and shops just minutes from the hotel. Our room was clean and comfortable, but with no frills. The room had a small en-suite shower room, satellite TV and basic furnishings (wardrobe, cupboards, desk, chairs, mirror etc..). Overall, it was good value for money. My only criticism would be that the room was very hot, even though we had our window fully open at all times. There are plenty of facilities (an ATM machine, an exchange desk, a cafe and bar, Internet access...) in reception. Overall, I would recommend this hotel for its cheap price and good location. If you're still not sure and you want to see some photos, let me know and I'll happily email some to you. I might even have built a tip on the hotel by this time next week - but no promises! ;-)

Thanks for good answers
I think that we are gonna go for the hotel royal. How is the best way to get from the airport to hotel royal? I have heard that the taxis at the airport is a bit of a rip off. We are planning to go to Macedonia, is there any nice places in serbia we can stop off on the way down? I guess 2 days in a big city is enough in july, cause its probably very warm? I have haven't planed to get drunk in Belgrade :) But you are right about the drinking ways in the nordic region Though the fins are worse than us :) Thank you!

I have to read up on those places!
What is the cost of things in Belgrade? I take it its cheaper than hungary? Is the train better to take than the bus to like say Skopje? We are planning on touring around the balkans for a month. Comming back to Serbia from Sarajevo on the way back. and maybe take a trip to Novi Sad before we fly home. Any tip for Novi Sad? or is it other places in that region that is better? I am so full of questions today :)

You have bus tours in Belgrade.
I m not sure how many agencies does this, but I found this link.http://www.travel-library.com/tours/europe/se There are some other tours too. You should ask in the hotel. Take care, I hope I m not to late. Goga
