Hi
You can’t hike to EBC in 3 to 4 days, the last person I know that was stupid enough to try something like this Died trying – AMS The problem is that once you reach 3,000 metres, you should only accent 300 metres per day, If you try and do more, you Seriously risk AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) and Die !! IF you fly into Luckla, Then you will need at least 10 days to do the round trip, 6 days up, and that includes one acclimatisation day at either Lukla or Namche Bazar and 4 days down – and that is Pushing it. You would be far better planning on 14 days and enjoying it, I took 29 days, walked in from Jiri to EBC then did the side trip to Gokyo and then flew out of Lukla and it was Awesome !! I Hope that helps your planning Rob

Every country seems to have its own idea as to what is safe/possible/recommended in terms of climbing/trekking.
In Nepal, hiking to EBC could mean climbing as high as Kala Pattar (5545m) for a view of Everest. This is usually done in about 2 weeks RT from Lukla (2800m). Compare this to climbing Kilimanjaro (5895m) in Africa. This climb is generally done in 4-7 days from almost sea level. In Nepal this might be regarded as crazy. And in Ecuador, you can climb Cotopaxi (5897m) volvano in one day from the refuge at 4800m. I did this a few months ago, but I spend about a week near Quito (2800m) to get acclimatized so I would not feel bad on the climb. So you can see that most anything is possible, expecially if you have spent some previous time at higher altitudes, or if you do not mind feeling like crap. I hear some folks fly directly into EBC, and the hotel there has oxygen in the rooms for them.
