Spent a fabulous day on Clare Island and just curious about all the cars. Not that there were many, but is there a car ferry or are they just used on the island?
Also, I'm dying to know, what's with all the wrecked cars at Roonagh Quay? It's an eyesore. |

hi there! glad to hear you enjoyed your trip to the island. As you probably noticed there is a large deck space on the back of the ferry. this enables cars (one at a time) to be transported from the mainland to the island. theyre lifted on and off with a pair of slings by the crane situated on both piers. The wrecked cars were the scrapage cars coming out of the island the time you were visiting. they were waiting to be collected by the scrap yard in galway. i agree it wasnt a pretty site but when they were gone the place was back to its natural beauty. hope you return to the island soon!
