Albany Amtrak on time record
Posted: Wed June 6, 2007 12:59 AM UTC
Hello,
This September I am planning on taking the Amtrak from Albany to NYC. Where I live Amtrak is consistanly 1,2 or more hours late (lots of freight traffic around here, Is it the same in Albany or can I count on a fairly on time schedule?
Thanks

Amtrak is a lot more reliable in the Northeast. I take the NE Corridor trains in and out of Penn Station (NY) very frequently, and the trains to and from Albany out of Penn seem to be mostly on time.

September should be fine - I've only seen late trains in extreme winter conditions during big snow storms or when there is ice.

The Amtrak ride was great! We got to the station early and it was a breeze to change our tickets to an earlier train. The train left right on time and what a beautiful ride. For the most part the tracks follow the Hudson River-for the best views of the river try to sit on the right hand side of the train (as you face the front of the train car-direction Albany to New York). Penn Station in New York was a bit hectic-just remember you have to go up the stairs to exit.
