| Padova | Tips on what to see, where to eat, where/what to buy ?? Posted: Tue June 5, 2007 10:01 AM UTC
Dear all travellers,
I need help. I'm traveling to Padova with 3 girl friends from 16 July to 19 July this summer. We are staying in Hotel Accademia Palace - Padua Via del Pescarotto 39 and plan to go to George michael's concert to Stadium Viale Nereo Rocco 60. Does anybody can tell me which bus to take to go there? Then I would be very gratefull for the tips where to eat, where to shop and what to buy. The most important question is what to see? I like museums and great buildings, parks and monuments...but there are a lot of them, so I need a selection and adresses - I will be using GPS. Thanks for your help, greeting from Ljubljana, Sabina |

I can't help you with many of your questions but for sure a must see in Padova is "Cappella degli Scrovegni" painted by Giotto in 1300 something. I couldn't see it yet but they say it's wonderful. YOu can have a look at some pictures and get information at this website:

Hi Sabina,
George Michael's concert in going to be in Padova's Stadium (Stadio Euganeo), (about 300 mts from my home). Your hotel is just few kilometres from the Stadium. If you want to reach then Stadium easily you can catch the bus nr.11 from the Train station and in few minutes you'll get there. Info about the bus but just in italian: http://www.apsholding.it/mobilita/pagina.asp?m1=me http://www.apsholding.it/mobilita/orari/inverno/mappa11.htm http://www.apsholding.it/mobilita/mappa/mappa1.htm (The Stadium is on the point L10) Maybe there will be a special line leaving from the Train Station 'cause of the important event. Concerning what to see in Padova: Cappella degli Scrovegni (Giotto's Paitings)and Giardini dell'Arena (Anfiteatro Romano) Basilica di Sant'Antonio (Saint Anthony of Padua) Prato della Valle La Specola (Galileo) The old Univeristy ( IL BO') Palazzo della Ragione and the Squares (delle Erbe, della Frutta e dei Signori) Musei Civici (close to the Scrovegni Chapel) Palazzo Zuckermann Just have a walk all around the old citycentre, sit on a square and drink an aperitive, be sure you will enjoy the atmosphere (expecially in the late afternoon or evening). What to eat and where..... - OSTERIA DEI FABBRI (Via dei fabbri, 13 - Padova Tel.049.650336) - Trattoria Le Sette Teste (via cesare battisti, 44 - Padova tel.049/664753) drink: "bossa di quel bon" - DA NANE DELLA GIULIA (Via santa sofia, 1 - Padova - Tel. 049.660742) - OSTERIA L'ANFORA (Via dei soncin, 13 - Padova Tel. 049.656629) ... It is not possible to write everything here.. sorry...... Enjoy your stay, Gianluca

Hi, I'm just back from Padua - What a great place to see GM!! There were quite a few posters around advertising his concert.
Things to see/do - Padua card covers bus travel and admission to museums etc. I bought mine from Tourist Info office opposite St Anthony Cathedral for 14 euro. This entitles you to free entrance to lots of attractions such as the Scroveni chapel-I booked my slot for the next day easily here-you pay another 1 euro for reg fee. The Padua card gives You a discount on the hop on - hop off tour bus too - usually 24 hours for 12 euros, but the card entitles you to 48 hours for 6 euros. This bus starts near the TI office. I found this card to be very useful. Most of Paduas museums etc are closed on Mondays. The Botanical gardens are open. My fave place was Grom on Via Roma- a Gelataria -Ice Cream shop. All products are natural and some are recommended by Slow Food. A cone of 2 scoops is 2.20 euros - I loved the Limone!!! There are lots of great shops - clothes/shoes/food/drink etc I liked the 90cent shop and the shop opposite (can't remember its name) which sold house goods, t shirts, and lots of novelty stuff- near St Anthony Cathedral on Via Del Santo I enjoyed the Bo University- missed the tour, but quite a lot to see anyway, Pedrocchi cafe and museum, The markets, St Justine Cathedral, - (I didn't get to see inside St Anthonys Cathedral though), the ghetto,Pallazzo della Ragione- for the Huge horse and paintings! The Prato della Valle is a great place to chill. On the Sunday there was a market here, but I enjoyed sitting by one of the bridges at sunset.Plus lots more!!!! Watch out for the bikes!! There are thousands of bike riders in Padua, and they creep up on You!! Hope You have a great time! If You want any more info please ask! Best Wishes, Sue X
