Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Zakopane walking from zakopane to bratislava!
Posted: Mon June 4, 2007 09:25 PM UTC
We are a group of 8 that are arriving at end of june and walking from zakopane over into slovakia. We have 1 week...I would be very grateful if anyone could help with the following questions
-which is the best way from krakow to zakopane? How much would a taxi cost for 8 of us?
-Which route should we take to the border? I have heard that the Tatras are very busy with lots of walkers...should we head for other mountains instead?
-And finally...we have heard that all the mountain huts in the area are already booked up?! Could this be true?! Is there a website for the huts? Could camping be an option or would it be too chilly?
If anyone could help us with any of these questions we would be most grateful!
Thank you!!!!!

Hello,
from Krakow to Zakopane go by bus (for instance Szwagropol company)- cheap, reliable and quite fast.
This is the page of mountain huts in the Polish Tatry

I'm afraid camping in the mountains is not a good idea as there's a national park, and camping is forbidden.

Mountain huts probably ahve all the beds booked, but they never turn down travelers. They will let you sleep on the floor in the hallway, like sardins with all the other less lucky people. Forget about shower !!!
Great place to stay is with the local people, in their houses (you don't have to always sleep on the top of the mountain). Just ask locals in small villages when you see them.
That is just from my own experience when I was hiking some time ago.
